Team Size: Teams will consist of 2 guys and 2 girls (if possible, see below).
Skill Level & Details: DRAW tourneys usually have varied skill levels from intermediate-advanced players. All players who enter must have some league play experience & an understanding of the main volleyball rules. Call your own faults (teams call their own faults which may vary slightly based on the PLAYERS skill level). Safety faults (like going under & net touches) are to be called 100% of the time!
Rank By Points: Players are placed by the total amount of POINTS they have accrued after the 9 games are over. Top 8 Male & Female players are formed into 4 teams to compete against each other in the final games for the additional $100 (the winning team takes all). 1st place players team vs 4th place players team & 2nd vs 3rd (1 game). Then 1 final game to get the winning team (wins $100 total / $25 each). Final games are to 21, cap at 25.
Example of how the 4 teams are matched (from last tourney) is shown below. Like colored cells would form a team. Two in red would be a coin flip to see who gets to play (unless they choose to split play).
DRAW PLAYER PRIZES!!
1st Place Male & Female Players Receive – $110.00 Each!
2nd Place Male & Female Players Receive – $70.00 Each!
The Final Winning TEAM Bonus Prize – $100 Bonus!
Additional Basic Tourney Details:
1. Players will draw numbers and get placed on a team (2 female & 2 male players) (if the tourney has equal male/female players). Each player will play 3 games with each team they are on (team change will occur a total of 3 times, so you will play 3 games on 3 different teams). After each game, both teams will record the score / win / loss on the record sheet.
2. All games are rally scoring to 21, win by 2, cap at 25. Scores are recorded as 21 points max (no extra points for OT).
3. Net serves are good. Players can set the serve. No guy / girl bump, set, spike rule (can be all guys / all girls that touch the ball prior it going over the net).
4. Incidental Net Rule – If a player touches the net it is considered a fault unless the player is completely out of the play or if it is the player’s shirt/hat/hair that touched the net (incidental net touch; the net would move no more than an ¼ inch).
5. Subs: To play in the final tourney, you must play in all games from start to finish on tourney day. Injury in gameplay? The team may use another player playing on another team in the tourney. Injury in the final tourney? The team may choose any player (even from another team) who is in attendance and who has played each game on tourney day. Teams may not use a player who has not played in all games on tourney day (cannot use a new/fresh player who has not been playing all day).
6. If a player handsets the ball over the net, the ball is DEAD. If a player hand sets the ball to the plain of the net & its touched by the opposing team 1st, the ball is dead. No handsets over.
7. Open Alcohol is not allowed at Elite Sportsplex… as Toby Keith would say… “Red solo cup, I fill you up!”
8. Call your own faults – if there is a disagreement, simply replay the play.
9. If the ball goes on another court during play the ball is live only if there is no person(s) on the court – if there is another person on the other court, the ball is considered dead.
10. In the occurrence of inclement weather, the tournament will be played unless the weather is HIGHLY EXTREME. “Regular” Michigan snow storms = GAME ON 100%.
11. If there are not enough male or female players, male/female (whichever is needed) players will take open spots to fill the tourney.
12. Only 2 male players may hit from the front row if there happens to be a team with more than 2 guys (if there is an uneven amount of male/female players). The other 2 players may hit from the 10-foot line and only the dedicated front-row hitters are able to block at the net.
13. Open-handed tips are not allowed. Can only spike the ball with an open hand or close hand to tip the ball over.
Thank you!
